The Footer’s Edge I know that I would enjoy. My single biggest struggle has been going from the ~ 7’- 8’ line off the boom to behind the boat. I think the biggest issue (beyond being impatient) is NOT turning my feet down / in and coming up duck footed.
You are not alone in saying the lack of mobility with the next brace is an impediment. My buddy Carl Rubidge who used to work with Ron Scarpa feels the same way about it.
Lane; you know my story, for the rest, I am a TRUE believer in Lane’s methods, I have skied/learned with Lane and some of his disciples, I have even used his methods to teach my 3 girls and a bunch of other people to barefoot (BTW his methods work for beginner skiers, slalom and wakeboard too – I have literally taught 100’s of people to SKI (on ski’s) using his method) all safe and with no falls. It works, it really does. I would say though that Lane forgot one really KEY component, and that is NO SAVES (BTW, this was one of my hardest things to learn early in my training). I did exactly as Lane said, tons of sets in the glide, 100’s of sets at really slow speeds, I was SUPER comfortable and very few falls. I was transitioning to one foots, starting to get the hang of back deeps – I was confident. But then the day came when I forgot the rule, if something goes wrong – LET GO, instead I tried to save it – the ending was catastrophic, long story short the injuries were career ending, but I got my miracle that day and God gifted with me a wonderful surgeon and I came away very much alive and still able to walk. But that’s not the message, the message is DON’T TRY TO SAVE A FALL and if you are going to ignore that rule, than I would suggest you acquire all the safety equipment you can, including a neck brace, probably a back board too. Way better advice is learn as much as you can from Lane and follow his advice – you can’t go wrong with that!
Hi guys … if the problem is alredy there .. i mean bulged and herniated discs around your neck .. the best solution is called ALFLUTOP injection therapy for around 21 days … 70 bucks on amazon/10 vials .. that stuff is not only anti inflammatory but also can rebuild the cartilages
Diana Dorflinger thanks for the info but I have never heard of this before. I looked it up and it is interesting and sounds good. Are you expected to inject this yourself? Into a joint?
Hi .. actually this is european product but all of my floridian motorbike racer friends are using it .. just as i did when i screwed up my neck about 4 months ago .. and it’s an intermuscular injection therapy so if u do have like worn out cartridges in your knee for examplec… you can inject it into the sorrounding muscles to yourself.. i also bought the needles + syringes from the pharmacy and i asked another skiing buddy to inject it right next to my spine at my neck because of course i Couldn’t reach it myself… + i took at least twice as much as it was recommended.. but since it’s 100% natural you cannot overdose it .. so i took 2 syringes/day .. for 21 days .. and it did work wonderfully since the herniated and a bulged disc was so damaged for a while the chiropractor didn’t want to touch it …
Diana Dorflinger interesting. Since I am not a Dr., I will have to run this by our Dr. of PT who helps a lot of us CrossFiters to see what he has to say. Dr. CJ DePalma?
Guys .. im pretty lucky because my doctor is very nice and willing to follow my rules … lol .. and i said sorry im not going for his prolo therapy because i don’t trust waking up my immune system + getting worse for a few days + it cannot rebuild the cartilages so efficiently as this ALFLUTOP .. and i trusted 10000% my biker friends who always break their bones and stuff on a regular basis lol
Lane you are funny! Everytime I hear your voice or see you you pump my mood up and it’s instant flow of positiveness that goes right to me you’re a great figure to society I think my dad’s a little jealous as I’ve shown him the videos of you and Crossfit and you’re jacked even his comments were holy s***
Carr Ryan thanks for the kind words. I miss you guys. There is nothing that brings me more joy than hearing that in some small way, I have brought some sunshine and motivation to you. Now, go out there and kick some ass! I believe in you
Thanks for posting Lane. I put the video on CorrectCraftFan.com of my gf and we watched your post this morning. She had a little epiphany when you said “flex the feet” because apparently her teacher (me) never told her to do that. That particular video was probably her 3rd or 4th ever LL attempt and she was struggling with positioning her knees and handle so you were right, they were all over the place. We have a ski set planned next weekend with John Berry and she really likes the idea of going back to the 5ft line and ironing out fundamentals at low speeds before rushing back behind the boat. We’ll be tuning in for more tips and tricks, especially if you make good on Greg Fossett’s request for an all backwards chat. (for me, I never wear a brace forwards but am just learning backwards now and wear it every time out). Thanks again.
I had to quit barefooting for about 5 years because of a neck injury I suffered on a stick ski when the fin popped out of the water as I cut back to the wake. The boat’s wake just about took my head off as I collected it on the way through.
I think I broke my neck but I didn’t seek help. Neck braces helped after I took on barefooting once again… although I agree learning how to barefoot properly is a better solution.
When I do barefoot now, fear of another neck injury is my worst enemy. Rather than being focused on what I’m doing I’m anticipating an agonising crash.
Hey there, Paul. Sorry for the late response. I did not see your post until now.
That is quite a story. You definitely need to practice barefooting at slower speeds and without falling. Having suffered 2 broken neck injuries, this is what inspired my No fall Barefooting Method.
Have I ever sent you my NonFall Barefooting DVD? I know you follow my teachings closely, but I am happy to send you a copy you can download to your computer to share with your amazing daughter if you wish.

Nope .. I’ve been using it … and Jeff had a partial hip replacement so that joint is not worn out anymore because it’s actually brand new 🙂
